I remember one time when I was about 12 years old catching a big 8 pounder from the local fishing lake where I grew up.
I took it in a bucket with water about .25 mile to the local store to show it off and weight it on the fruit/vegetable scales. I intended to return to where it came from.
My dad intercepted me and had me filet it and take it to a family nearby.
I was somewhat heartbroken but had to do what he said.
He told me the bottom line is that people/family were more important than in his word a "blooming fish".
After seeing the faces of the family when we dropped off the filets told me quickly that he was dead right.
Now, if I catch a mess of fish and I know a needy family then they are going to get eaten.
I could care a less what anybody, much less any fishing organization/club thinks about it.
