Tom thanks for the info! It is not uncommon to have bass die after a big tournament, especially this time of the year. There is just so much you can do to keep them alive. Most of the tournaments do a pretty good job of trying to release the bass in good shape but unfortunately, the mortality rate is still to high in my opinion.
I wish during the hot summer months, tournaments would decrease the limit to 3 fish. This would help but would make for a boring weigh-in. Back when bass tournaments first started, the limit was 15, 30 per boat. Can you imagine the fish kills back then. Also, back then bass were kept for a food source more often then they are now.
If I remember right Tom Mann and his partner had one of the heaviest stringers in tournament history back in the early 70's. They had 30 fish that weighed around 250 lbs, that is a 8 pound average! If my memory is right, it was lake Eufaula were this record was set.
