I have caught almost every species in the river during a willow fly hatch on a fly rod. I have found that sometimes they are very picky about the color/shape.
I was catching a few good bream in Decatur a couple of years ago with a white and then a black popping bug. The bite slowed but they were still hitting the real fly's. I scraped the paint off of a white popper to expose the brown cork. what a difference. They tore it up. I have since bought brown slender bugs and wet flies just for the hatch. Brown rooster tails also do pretty good.
One thing a lot of people overlook is there can be big bass/catfish/etc. under the bream, feeding on the bream that are not paying attention. Throw a crankbait (bream pattern) under them and hang on.
