On highway 69 leaving from jasper cross the second bridge and turn immediately to the left across from the riverside fly shop. many places on side of that road to access the water and when the turbines are off you can walk on the bank in either downstream or upstream directions. also when you get to the end of the road at the pump house you can walk around the pump house and go even farther upstream towards the dam itself. there are many shoals in the is stretch of the river. i grew up on the river and still live next to it. the rainbows have been caught as far as sipsey which is about 8 miles by river. if you are gonna wade you need to know the water stays around 55 degrees so if you got waders they will be of good use. if you need anymore directions email me and i will send you a aerial photo with some markers and directions on it.
