These are the facts you needs to consider:
Outboards performs better, weighs less, and require less maintanence.
The I/O is heavy, does not produce as much power for the weight, and is a fire hazard due to gasoline inside a closed engine box. I/O's also tend to have constant maintanence problems with the outdrive unit. I/O's previously had a fuel efficiency advantage due to the 4-sroke motor but now the outboards come that way also so the advantage is gone. Also, some of the new high pressure 2-stroke outboards are very efficient.
