I have only used the mushroom type and have done well with it in many types of situations, however you must use common sense no matter what achor type you use. Below the dams on the Tennessee river conditions can change quickly and dramatically!
In any case, the most common type of anchor used on the Tennessee river is most likely the mushroom style. Here is a link to a message thread on the NAFF that describes and has a diagram of another anchor. Maybe the same one described by another reply to your inquiry.
