I also live in Decatur. Before moving here I had grown up going to Lake Martin at Alexander City. When you have enjoyed calm waters, the Tennessee River just don't get it for me. When I pack up to fish, I head west to Russellville to fish the Bear Creek Watershed lakes, Cedar, Little Bear and Big Bear. Beautiful lakes and clean water with very little residential developement. I am still learning the lakes but I hear crappie fishing is good. From Decatur, go west hwy. 24 and you can be in the water in about an hour and 15 minutes or so. ....'worth every minute of the drive! I made about 10+ trips there last year and I'm hooked.
