LAKE LEVEL : 559.1
NORMAL FULL POOL : 564.0
SURFACE TEMP: Mid to high 30's
WATER CLARITY: Good
CRAPPIE: A lot of fish coming out of the Chatooga. Not many keepers but big numbers.Probably 100 per day, May if you are lucky you
can keep 15. Fish in 8-10 feet of water. It is hard to stay on the old channel edge but that seems to be the most productive. Also, mouth
of Spring & Cowan. Also some stringers being brought into Riverside. Also a lot of number but not a lot of keepers. Most of the keepers
are coming off the old river channel if you can stay on them when they are generating. But it is impossible to fish when they are
generating.Best bait right now is minnows. Don't be afraid to check them shallow in the afternoons.
About 5 years ago I went with Auburn University on a shocking trip also tagging for the spring tournament. We tried a lot of places with
some success. We went into the back end of Trotters Cove and in about 3 feet of water and they were stacked up.This was early
February. Water temp was about 40 degrees. That would have been the last place I would have looked for them. If they are not biting
it is because you are not fishing where they are.
BASS: Bass fishing is a little slow but not bad.Crankbaits around to any rip-rap that you can find adjacent to any deep water. They
seem to be suspended in about 8-10 feet of water. I look for this bass season to be one of the best one we have had in years.
STRIPE: Stripe are still chasing the birds. The Little-Fishy works the best when the birds are diving. Cowan and
Spring,Churchouse,Sailboat Club, and Powerhouse.Try trolling for them with a crappie jig on 6 lb. test line.Be sure you have a full
spool and back the drag all the way off. After he is on slowly bring the drag back on.It is a real blast to catch 15 lb fish on 6 lb. test line
and ultra-lite rod.
BREAM: Guntersville.Slowed some with the cold weather but 35-40 is not bad.Especially if you have cabin fever. Bait is the problem.
It is hard to find.Don't go over there unless you know you can get some.About any bridge with deep water. They will be 35-50 foot
deep, right on the bottom.Bottom bumping the best way to do it.
CATFISH: Commercial fishermen are catching them like crazy. Most of them coming off the old river channel in deep water.
CARP: We have a problem in Weiss Lake.We have too many. The bring havoc on crappie beds, not to mention bass either. Little River
is clear along with Yellow Creek.Get you a spotlight and your favorite bow and lets wipe some out.
Spring is right around the corner.Go ahead and get your membership with Weiss Lake Improvement Association so that you can fish for
the tagged fish. They are the only organization on this water that is fight for our water. They need our help and support just as we need
them.Good Fishing! Steve,Cheryl,Butch, & Harry 256-927-6617 www.weisslakeguideservice.com
