From my personal experience, if you are going to be making long runs, opt for the console steer. The tiller usually works just fine, but my hand tends to cramp really bad from keeping the throttle twisted. Also, with a console, you have something to duck behind on the really cold days. If you are going to get a console steer, pay the extra money for power trim. In a tiller steer, you are right there at the motor to tilt it up when the need arises, but I've had a console steer without power tilt and it was no fun at all. You have to get up and walk to the back of the boat every time you think you are in shallow water or to beach up.
