DATE: 1-22-03
LAKE LEVEL: 559.1
NORMAL FULL POOL: 564.0
SURFACE TEMP: high 30's am - low 40's pm
WATER CLARITY: Great

CRAPPIE: Some decent stringers are coming out of Riverside.Fishing minnows 6-8 feet deep.On the drops in Dead Boy and Trotters
Cove. They are using bottom bumpers which if you are not familiar with that type of fishing it is fairly simple. Tie the lead on the end
of the line, come up about 2 feet and do a loop knot with your first hook and another 2 feet up for your second hook. We have a cold
front due in here that will probably slow everything down.

BASS: Cold weather has slowed them down a little bit. Anywhere you can find rock adjacent to deep water you can pick up a few in
the afternoon after the sun warms. Best bait would be crankbaits. Broke back shad rap seems to work best.

STRIPE: Stripe fishing still pretty good. If you can find the birds diving on the water you can throw at them with a little Fishy 1/4 oz.
head.White & black or white & blue. Some success still trolling through them with a crappie jig. Also an excellent way to locate them.
Try the mouth of Churchouse, the old river channel edge at Riverside, the mouth of Spring & Cowan and Powerhouse out in front of the
islands.

BREAM: Good stringers of bream still coming off of Guntersville around the bridges in 35-50 feet of water right on the bottom.Finding
bait seems to be the hardest thing to do.

CATFISH: Deep water in the old river channel.Come get all you want.Cut shad or chicken livers work well.

Tip of the week: Has nothing to do with fishing.Has a lot to do with your fishing money. When is the last time you checked your
washing machine water hoses and the shut off valves? This is a disaster waiting to happen.I know because I have been there and done
that.
We are still asking folks to support Weiss Lake Improvement Association at www.weisslakeimprovementassociation.org
Remember that the lake is pretty low and you need to be careful where you go.Common sense is the best key or you will be have one
of our annual 1/2 prop sales.Looking forward to a great spring. Thanks, Steve,Cheryl,Butch & Harry www.weisslakeguideservice.com
