Wheeler is one of the most frustrating lakes on the Tennessee river chain of lakes. Maybe I say this because I live near and fish it more than other TVA lakes. Pickwick can also be as daunting as Wheeler, given its similar operating guide (6 foot draw down and similar timing of the same) and the fact that it is also used as a flood control lake.
This may be of little help to those who live far away from Wheeler, but I'll say it again... There is no substitute for time on the water! That goes for ANY lake or body of water.
