Was out fishing under a bridge on Wheeler last night and ran into a massive school of what I think are skip jack shad. They were long narrow fish with a green/yellow back and forked tail. Looked like a baby tarpon. Was throwing a chartreuse bass assasin and catching one everyother cast. They were anywhere from 1- 1 1/2 lbs apiece. Pulled like crazy and vicious on the strike. Can you do anything worthwile with these things to eat them or smoke them? Could not find a crappie one or even a white/stripe anywhere near this school of fish and they were not giving up their location on the bridge. What are these things and do they have any redeeming qualities to them besides being a bunch of bait robbers? My kids like to catch them just because they fight so well. (smile) I hear that cut up, they make great catfish bait.
