I've got a theorey about all the lack of sauger this year. Traditionally, the gates to the dams are not nearly this open this early. I hear there are two dams upriver being worked on that are contributing to this situation. But, because there is so much current this year, I don't think the sauger need to come to the dam to find a current washed gravel bar. I believe the fish are finding suitable conditions down river to spawn on gravel bars with current that don't normally have the current do to the extreme water flow this year. Consequently, I believe the sauger are more spread out throughout the river system this year waiting to spawn in area we normally don't see them using. Up north, the walleye and sauger will spawn on gravel bars with current all through a river system. Anybody have a thought on this one?
