Actually, a lot of bass will be POST spawn by April, as many go on the beds in March, and are done by April. We found bass locked on bed last Feb in 54 degree surface temps. There will still be some pre-spawn fish, but the majority of the really big fish are done by then. However, April is still a great time to fish. Top-water baits like a Zara Spook Jr or Poppin' Image are great along the channel grass, on the channel flats or in the pockets. Lipless cranks and shallow running cranks over the grass growing on the main ledges and on primary breaklines work very well. It's usually pretty easy to catch a lot of bass in April. I fish full time, and the lake last year in April was producing 5@20+ pounds to win tournaments from BB Comer to the Guntersville Dam, but I like the Waterfront up to Goose Pond areas best.
