Yes February is the normal time the Sauger do spawn ,but it is determined with the temperature of the water as much as anything. It just so happens on average its usuallly the right temperature along the second and third weeks of february that makes the big sow saugers seek out the rocky shoals and banks to lay their swollen eggs. But i have seen the spawn start as late as march and as early as end of january. The water temp is as about as cold as its gonna get now with the possible exception of another 10 or 15 degrees should we have really cold january, but once the temp starts climbing the saugers eggs will start swelling ,we usually can tell how much longer before the spawn by the size of the egg sacs in the big females, course we have to catch them in order to see HA Right now they are at least 5 to 6 weeks away from the very few i have seen as long as the water temp doesnt change dramatically.Course this is just an old fishermans guess based on what i have seen i n the past.
