Besides Guntersville, Wheeler and Smith Lake, Madison County Lake is a good bet. An out-of-state license ($11 for 7-days), www.dcnr.state.al.us/agfd/fishlic.html, and a $2 daily permit is all you'll need. Bank access is extensive plus a fishing pier. They have inexpensive boat rental, but be aware they will charge for life jacket rental ($1 each). They keep daily records of catch, so you can call to ask what is being caught (get pounds caught for each species and number of anglers). The 105-acre lake has bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish and crappie. Twelve pound largemouth bass have been caught in the lake. see www.dcnr.state.al.us/agfd/fish/sl/madison.html
