jd Since you said you did not know any thing about the trout below Smith Dam Here are the facts. They are stocked by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service every other month with two extra stockings in spring (eight times a year).True they are not native to the state but the water below Smith stays around 58 degrees year around so the fish do quite well, it is also some of the cleanest water in the state. All that is needed to fish for the trout is a valid Alabama fishing license and basic fishing gear. Bank fishing with power bait is probably the best way to catch them.With some waders there is also some good areas to catch them with a fly rod
