April and May is great for nonstop topwater action on Guntersville, but poppers and buzzbaits will be your best bet. My 10 year old son and I both like the Pop'n Image or Spit'n Image for topwater action that time of year. You'll catch lots of 2-6 lb bass, with a few smaller and larger ones thrown in for good measure. The grass usually doesn't get matted up until early July. From my experiences, I have learned that the big fish usually don't bury up in the weeds for serious rat fishing until late August or September, when the temperature gets almost unbearable. Don't forget to swim a 10-12" worm with 1/16 oz sinker in and around the weeds from spring through the fall.
