First you have to wait for the flood gates below Guntersville Dam to close and then the water level may get back to normal for this time of year. All of this high water this fall/winter has really messed up my style of fishing for sauger and bass. You can go to Cooley's Grocery on the Arab/Scant City side and buy a dip net or a wall basket. Or make your own basket from re-bar and 3/8" wire. Then go down to the concrete wall right next to the dam, watch and wait for them to show up. A net will catch them at the bottom of the wall and a basket must be used when you are too high to reach the surface of the water. If you use a basket be sure to use a 50' GREEN rope instead of bright colors. I see folks down there all the time with white or yellow ropes complaining how they can't catch much bait. It has been well over a month since the water has been low/slow enough to catch any crawly bottoms (log perch). The small ones make great sauger bait while the stripers/hybrids and bass (all 3 species) love any size they can get. Good Luck and welcome back to the big city of Arab!!!
