The water temperature is still a little too warm for the sauger to get active, even though I caught one a few weeks ago while cranking for bass. For the time being, you should concentrate your efforts on crappie for some tasty fillets and wait on a big blast of Canadian air to get the sauger fishing started. Some of my best days ever for sauger have been the most miserable, with rod eyelets and reel levelwinds frozen. Fishing in blowing snow and freezing rain will definately weed out all but the most die hard fishermen. It always reminds me of freezing my tail off while deer hunting in a tree stand, only with a lot more action. I'll post as soon as I find some sauger that are willing to bite.
