Ok - without knowing everything about your boat, here is what I have calculated:
If your transom height is less than 20 inches, the maximum is 25 HP.
If your transom height is 20 inches or more, AND you have remote steering, the maximum horsepower rating is 70 HP. Seems like a lot of motor for a 14 footer, but it might be street legal if the manufacturer did not rate it for less.
Anyone getting different numbers? If so, please advise. It is hard to believe that going from a 19" to a 20" transom height allows a 300% increase in motor size, but with laws and government policy, the line usually has to be drawn somewhere in almost all cases. As an example, check out 40 CFR which includes environmental regulations that provide very rigid lines as to when the CONCENTRATION of a "pollutant" actually turns into "pollution." Since this is just about fishing season again, let us not get started on another preaching and teaching session related to water pollution and the clean water act. We will save that for winter and have a repeat of last year. hehe.
