Kerry what good news to hear a guy from the bank is able to catch a few crappie. I live in Madison and have only been here for a short time so a good bit of my fishing is getting done on Wheeler as I try to learn the area. What kind of cover were you fishing? There are some good weed beds around Limestone creek that I frequent, but I'm not pulling any crappie. I also fish the creek back up in what is called the strip mines area there with spotty results. I hear that area is good though during the winter. I have two small girls that enjoy getting out, the use of jigs under a bobber sounds right up their alley. Is there any area that is accessible for this type of fishing on the N side of Wheeler or around Decatur? What time of day was it when you caught this mess? Is light a particular factor for this technique? Are you letting the bobber float right up against the cover?
