The best place for regular strain bluegill and shellcrackers that I know of is Callaway Gardens in Georgia. I went bass fishing there in the mid 70's and caught dozens of them over a pound on a 7.25" plastic worm and a 2/0 hook. The largest bluegill weighed almost 2 pounds on a De-Liar scale. They are still there today. I think they teach an Orvis flyfishing school there now.

I know of a rock quarry in Morgan county that is no longer open to the public which yielded a 3+ pound bluegill to a flyfisherman about 12 years ago. I saw that hawg almost completely covering the bottom of a #2 washtub. If you know of any rock quarries that are legally accessable you might try them. They are often totally ignored by fishermen but hold some trophy fish.

If you know anyone who has stocked a pond with coppernose bluegill you should give it a try. Those bruisers get really big. Good Luck!
