The water patrol has the same rights as a state trooper does on the highway. From what I have gathered, they do not go looking for alcohol unless there is another reason that brings it to their attention. Now that list could be long. For example exceeding safe boating speeds, reckless driving, children without life vest, disturbing others, etc, etc, etc.
Check the Alabama Marine Police website for the real answers. Don't rely on what you hear from us.
I don't in any form or fashion condone drinking and driving. I don't care if it's a car, truck or boat. But people cruising around as passengers can relax and let their hair down as long as they know when to say when.
