While on the subject of flatheads, I would also appreciate some tips. I tried it a few times last summer, but had little success. I was drifting just below Redstone Arsenal near the shore along some bluffs using live shiners. I have always heard that flattie wants his meal alive and kicking, and suspect that bream may be the best bait. Should I be fishing main channels, or pitching bait near fallen timbers. I caught a few on a crankbait while bass fishing many years ago below g'ville dam.
I believe Wheeler is the best bet, and anywhere below g'ville dam to the Decatur boat harbor is where I plan to focus this year. For any experienced flathead fisherman, is it more of a factor of bait/presentation, location, time-of-day, current flow, plain luck, or a combination of all as with most types of fishing on the TN river?
Thanks for any tips!
