I caught fish from deep to shallow. Keep trying likely spots until you find them. You'll be able to see the shallow beds, but you have to be very stealthy and work them slow when they are shallow. I had best success with crickets, and a nymph on a fly rod. I fished for a few hours with the fly rod and a barbless hook. I probably lost 10 for every fish I boated, but had a ball. I bet that Keystone minnows would also work well. Watch out for those pesky bass, they will steal a bream every now and then. Shellcracker usually like worms, but I didn't do well with them yesterday.
