I use to fish Madison county lake back in the 80's
and according to my records, the biggest fish ever
to come out of Madison county lake was a little over
13 pounds. As far as Madison county lake producing
a Alabama state record?????????? Probably not. If someone
wanted to grow a state record in that lake, alot would
have to done. First the lake should be drained and
all fish should be removed. Then restock with Florida
strain largemouth and bluegill only! No crappie and catfish.
The PH levels should be maintained properly and fertilization
should be maintained. Allow noone to fish the lake for 6
years and keep a good stock of shad for forage. This lake
has potential for producing a state record, but it
is not intended for that. I do know that several years
ago, the state drained the lake and tried to remove
all the fish for restocking. I was down there when
this took place and and believe me, they did not remove all
of the fish. People were out there with saine nets
gathering fish like crazy. It was like watching a bunch
of pigs in a mud bath! After I have said my 2 cents
worth, next week a Alabama state record will be caught!
