Here is a message I posted on the AL.com fishing message board. It is true. The only thing I can't say for sure is exactly how big the bass we saw actually was, but it definitely was the biggest LMB I ever saw and I have no doubt in my mind that it was in the 20 pound range!

This past fall, Alex and I were crappie fishing one of
our favorite spots and I hooked a crappie about 11
inches long. Since I could tell it was a relatively small
crappie, I was cranking it in fairly quickly. Well, I wish I
had slowed down a little.

As I brought the crappie out of the water, Alex and I
both saw a largemouth that had to go about 20 pounds.
At least that is my estimate. It was, without a doubt, the
biggest LMB I have ever seen and was coming up for
that 11 inch crappie!

I remember turning to Alex and stuttering "Did you
SEE THAT!". He did. That event was our talk for most
of the rest of that day.

I hooked a hand sized bluegill and used it for bait for a
while thereafter with no luck, but I will never forget what
I saw.

To answer a question: Does Guntersville have a State
record LMB in it? YES! Possibly one even bigger than
that.

Good luck and good fishin'
