Good Info! Also remember when you use a texas rig your use to dropping the tip after the strike and snap setting the hook. This is completely wrong with the C-rig. When you feel the bite simple keep reeling until you feel a pull or the weight of the fish and then sweep set the hook. Also if your new to the C-rig shorten your leader to about 18 inches. This will increase your feel and confidence in the rig. A shorter leader will also cut down on the number of gut hooks you get which is important on a slot lake like Smith. I never go longer then about 30 inches. Remember the fish is keying in on the weight and you want your bait/hook close by so he can find it. Also the right rod in important. You should be using a 6'6" to 7 foot medium action rod to help with the sweep set. I like to keep a texas rig ready as a back up in case I hit brush. Also on Smith you should always keep a shaking head rigged for those vertical holes. Good Luck!
