Great discussion on a subject that has interested me for many years now.
Yes, you can keep most bass alive for a long time in a livewell. Most, not all. You are always going to lose a few, I lose one occasionaly even when I put them back immediately.
You do relocate a bunch of fish, and tournament organizers can't put them back where thay came from. I have no idea how the FLW organizers return fish to the lake, but I bet that they just take them to the nearest access point and dump them into the water. Maybe they dump them in carefully, and maybe they get dumped into Bubbas favorite hole or farm pond. No way they get escorted back to where they came from.
As a sport angler I view tournaments as a problem. Damage to the fish is a big part of the problem. Tournaments are moneymakers for some folks, that's why they sponsor and organize them. They are taking advantage of a natural resource, which is not a problem in and of itself. But when the tournament pulls a fish out of my favorite stretch of water and doesn't put it back where I can find it again, I get bugged. You may officially consider me bugged.
happy trails - Rob
