Kerry the fishing in smith will never return to the good old days when the lake was first formed no lake ever does.when first formed lakes have a large amount of nutriants and the result is extreamly good fishing. Then the lake slowly reaches its( carrying capacity )which is still a lot of fish but not like it once was .The agrement between the dcnr, alabama power, and BASS. to hold the lake level in spring has really helped.Prior to that agrement the state estimates there were fewer than 6 succseful spawns in smith since it was impounded .The spotted bass did a lot better but large mouth do not spawn as deep and did not do as well.I don't fish the tenn river as much as smith but I am sure that the amount of people fishing today has a lot to do with the amount of fish we have to fish for.
