You can find printer lead at some OLD print shops. Try a local tire store for old wheel weights. I have a friend that got a lead shield from an old Dr office where X-rays were taken. Anyone that has been in the plumbing business for years may have some lead laying around. Don't overlook scrap dealers or junk yards in your area.
When I got started, I asked around my family and friends and I ended up with about 300 lbs of lead. It is amazing if you hand out a dozen or two of you jigs how much lead you can get in return! :-)
