Shad have been schooling in most of the pockets down river and along the bluffs, and can be caught with a net. There are some that are running the rip-rap just below the dam and a shad knocker will get them or a throw net, but they are not easy to get there. Town Creek in front of the Double Head resort is my usualy place to net them with a throw net. If you are going to buy shiners, which work well this time of year, you can buy them by the pound at the Chevron next to the Wheeler State park entrance in Rogersville, The Conoco at the intersection of 101 and 72, and at Woodys down 101 closer to the Wheeler Dam. I think Fishermans Resort up Bib Nance creek still carries them also.
We fished artificials all day today on Wilson and it was tough. Small crankbaits in the pockets were the best bet. No luck in the tailraces today. Water temps in the upper 40s.
