I fish most of the time now on Lay Lake on the Coosa River. Normally, Lay never changes more than one foot either way unless heavy rains. What really gets to me is the way they do Smith Lake especially in the spring. Just as the bass are trying to bed, Alabama Power starts playing with the water level. This year since December, the lake was withing a few inches of full pool. Alabama Power started pulling it down and lowered it over 11 feet in a few weeks. It is within about 2 1/2 feet now of being full so I wonder if they are going to pull it down again. During the drought of 2000, they dropped the lake 21 1/2 feet. By law of the Army Corps of Engineers, they could only drop it another 6 inches that year. I could understand dropping the lake during the drought but 21 1/2 feet seemed excessive to me. Just my .02 cents worth.
