I think I saw a stat qouted of something like 1:10 walleye to sauger in the north Alabama area. I don't think that is correct. Even though I am sure that some walleye are caught by sauger fishermen that don't identify them correctly, I don't think there is a 1:10 ratio when talking about fish caught.
The generation schedules of the hyrdo-electric plants have changed to the point, IMHO, that our water can no longer support walleye as they did in the past (15-50 years ago). With the advent of nuclear power the dams are used less and less for power generation and on some lakes, poorly for flood control. Years ago the Tennessee river had a more or less steady flow even with the dams and we had a much better fishery in general and in fact. Not so today... (sigh)
