Alabama has no native trout. Rainbow trout are stocked in the Sipsey below Smith Lake dam about every two months. Rainbow trout are stocked in Madison County Lake three times during the winter. The last stocking has gone in Madison County Lake, and the lake will re-open Friday. For a complete list of fish in the state, get "The Fishes of Alabama and the Mobile Basin" for thirty dollars from the Div. of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. Although citizens are able to stock many species of fish in Alabama, I know of no lake trout being caught.
