Below Guntersville Dam is where I've caught my sauger so far this season, but they have not been plentiful. A 3/8 - 3/4 oz jig with a chartreuse 3 inch grub, sometimes tipped with a minnow, works for me. The jig weight depends on the velocity of the current. Use just enough weight to get it to hang as vertical as possible. If you have a cast net you can use 2 inch(+ or -) shad on a three-way swivel river rig, also bounced along the bottom, in current or on the edge of current.
My spotted bass have been caught on Shad Raps or Deep Wee R(crawfish) around current seams and eddys. Use light line and/or larger baits in order to make contact with the bottom. Good luck and please don't keep the larger "spots" so we'll have them to catch next time!
