I've only fished the lower part of the lake for the past month but I'll tell you what I know. The crappie are biting minnows on slip floats from 9-14 feet deep around bridges especially when current is present. They'll also hit bass assassins on 1/16 oz lead head. I always tightline them and countdown to the depth they show up on the depth finder. This weekend I didn't catch any slabs, but they'll be back.
The only bass fishing I've done in the past couple of weeks was good. Try fishing 10' humps near the channel out to about 17' with a carolina rigged lizzard or large worm. Tequila Sunrise worked for me. They also seemed to bite better when current was present. I had a 5,some 4's and 3's which were lots of fun. Good Luck while your in Alabama.
