Well, I've heard of folks using the spray-on or roll on truck bed liner stuff with great success. It is a very durable chemical and probably would not cost much for the little it would take to make a keel guard. If the metal were properly prepared, I think it would be perfect, and you could put it on as thick as you wish by stacking coats. You can use tape to make the shape and thickness of the guard, or use something for a border. I'm told it works as well as the expensive add ons, but I have no personal experience using it on a boat. Seems feasable though.
