I went out this morning to get a couple of sunday papers about 6:30am. Of course, I made sure to take my tackle and a couple of rods and reels.
I wasn't really planning on fishing, but I know how I am and if I have half a chance, I will wet a line. (grin) I tried a few spots around Decatur with no success until the last spot I tried. There was water coming out of a culvert into 3-5 feet of water. Lots of small shad schooling and about 50 gar on top. Thought I would try anyway using a bass assassin under a cork in crystal shad color. After about 5 or 10 minutes of this I was almost ready to leave when the first of about 10 small crappie hit. It was rapid fire succession after the first one and about 20 minutes later it was over as the sun started to hit directly on the water I was fishing. None of the crappie were anywhere near being keepers. Biggest one was about 8 inches, but boy did that scratch my crappie itch! (smile)
