Nobody wants to tell you where they caught their bream or where they found bream or shellcrackers on beds and I really can't blame anyone for that. They will tell you: "Oh, on around there." You say, "On Flint Creek?" They'll say, "Naw." You'll say, "In the river?" They'll say, "Naw, you've got to smell them." So you laugh and realize that they are not going to tip off their fishing hole.
I've caught a few fairly nice bream but have never found a bed. I've smelled them so I know I've been around them. Does the smell go away when you spook them? It seems to disappear quickly. And how on earth can you see a bed in the Flint Creek area when you can't see a foot deep in the water?
Now that the spawning season is nearly over some of you experienced fishermen can give a few clues and hope by next season I'll have forgotten what I was told.
