TVA Campgrounds Opening for 2001 Season
TVA campgrounds on reservoirs throughout the Tennessee Valley began
opening this month for the 2001 season with no change in fees. Improvements
have been made at several campgrounds, picnic areas and other public-use
Eight campgrounds are opening on a staggered schedule from
March 15-April 20. Three campgrounds and all TVA day-use recreation areas
are open year-round. The campground schedule and information on reserving
picnic pavilions is available on TVA's Camping & Recreation Areas Web page
TVA operates about 100 public recreation areas, including
day-use areas, boat ramps and 11 campgrounds.
Camping fees will remain $11 a day per camping unit for
sites without water and electric hookups and $15 a day for sites with
hookups. TVA's day-use areas and boat-launch ramps have no fees. At
recreation areas managed cooperatively through partnership arrangements,
private operators or public agencies may charge fees for boat launching and
day-use to help cover maintenance expenses.
Holders of Golden Age and Golden Access Passports receive a
50-percent discount on camping fees. Passports are available from TVA's 12
watershed team offices (access the link above for more information) and at
most other federally operated recreation areas.
