I mainly fish the Decatur area since it is my back yard, so to speak. Yes, I have great success with soft plastic lures such as the bass assassin in various colors. I still use tube jigs from time to time, but the bass assassin is my mainstay. I know I sound like a salesman for them, but they just simply do a good job for me.
If you have a boat and since you live in Muscle Shoals, you should try Coffee slough. Be careful though! It is very shallow this time of year and can be very dangerous, but the view(s) when you get way back into it are spctacular and worth the trip alone. I have caught crappie, shellcracker, bluegill and bass in that slough. It is located approx. 7 miles down river from McFarland harbor.
Good luck and good fishin'!
