We have been finding them, somewhat, every trip lately. But, with the ever changing conditions on Wheeler and the colder weather at night, it has been harder to keep on the fish or at least to keep them hitting. Found them early this morning in shallow water (air temp about 36-40, water 48, wind 7-12 approx.) using chartreuse/woodpecker and orange bass assassins under a cork about 12-14 inches deep in 1-3 feet of water. The hit stopped shallow for me by 9am and never really started back strong the rest of the day in the shallows. Marked fish in channels at 4-7 feet in 7-10 foot water, but could not get them to hit. Maybe we should have trolled for them? Don't know...
Ended up with 35 decent crappie, mostly white females I think, but not sure since I let my fishing partner take them all home. Not a bad day, but a lot of work after 9am!!!
