Since you said you're going to Florence, I take it you're fishing Pickwick. Be CAREFUL. Pickwick is a good place to throw a prop or hit submerged objects (rocks, logs...). Fished there a couple of weeks ago and the largemouth seemed to prefer watermelon seed wormes, Texas rigged, or green pumkin jig-n-pig. Dip the tails in chartruse and fish it slow in 3-12 ft on flats and in eddy's. Smallmouth are being caught on chartruse and white spinnerbaits along banks with current.
If you want to catch some stripe, throw a shad-rap on the flats.
Like I said, be careful once you get out of the channel markers, and don't drift fish under the new bridge just up river from McFarland park. If the current is running hard, boats have been known to capsize from the current break caused by that bridge.
