I was fishing with a friend on Wheeler a couple of days ago when he caught a big one. It was just after dark, so we weren't sure how big, but he called me later and let me know that it was 2.75 pounds (2 pounds, 12 ounces) and was 16.25" long and 9" from the top of the back to the bottom of the belly (not including the fins).
He didn't measure the width of the back or the total girth around the belly, but my guess was it was between 3" and 4" across the back. He said it had approximately 4 to 6 ounces of roe. One fat fish, but still not near 3 pounds.
I had caught one earlier that I thought would be the catch of the evening until he caught the big one, but it only went 1 pound 15 oz. I also had another one that was 1 pound 13 oz. Didn't measure the length of those, though. Mine were black crappie and I think his big one was a black, but we won't know for sure until the pictures come back. Yeah, I know... but he didn't think to make a note whether it was black or white and it was too dark when he caught it for me to be sure.
Good luck and good fishin'
