Brian Metcalf, all you have to do is attach a longer line in addition to the existing cast net line. Once you have made your throw, do not put any tention on the line sinking. Once you get to the depth where the shad are holding, let in go down another 5 feet. Once you get the net coming up, keep tention so as not to open the net coming up. You can actually see the net on your LCR going down and coming up. It will suprise you how well it works!

Keep in mind though that if you catch threadfin shad at this depth, they will not survive long due to the fast depth change. Those things are very sensitive. Will not be factor though if you are down rigging and trolling. Free lining might be a problem with dead shad!

I have caught them as deep as 35 feet using a cast net. Most of the time it will be bigger threadfin shad. Perfect for striper fishing! Good luck and wear your life jacket.
