A floating log, however, is different. Usually you see just a tiny part of it cause it's waterlogged and barely buoyant enough to float.
I see small boats just like mine all the time from as far as 1/2 mile away. Back in the summer, I met up with a couple of my buddies above Ditto Landing for a morning rendezvous at a hangout off the river. One of them has an 8 foot homebuilt runabout that dirty white colored, the other in a red 8 foot homebuilt hydro. I managed to see them about 500 yards away. My boat is nearly twice the lenght and sits higher out of the water than theirs.
If you're not looking out for what may lie ahead then you definitely won't see anything. That's why a couple of my parent's biking friends basically got run over by someone behind them. The guy was stuffing his face or something and managed to not see the GROUP of motorcyles in front of him.
