Hi David,

Each of my 5 lake records have come on live shad ranging in size from 6 to 12 inches. The 45 lb lake record was taken in May on an 8 in. shad only 18ft deep. I was on a guide trip with a lady from Bugtussle AL when the huge striper took the bait at approx. 7:30 PM and she fought it for nearly 50 minutes. My other records have come at various times during the year. If you are attempting to establish the best time to catch a big striper based on previous times......forget it. These Gulf Coast strain stripers are just not that predictable. I established the first striper guide service here on Smith Lake back in 1988 and I do not even use my own past performance to guess when the big one's will bite.

I know this may not help much in deciding when to go for the big ones, but that is the way it is. You could hang just about any time during the year.

Regards,
Dale Welch
