The Spilling is a good thing and has always meant better fishing for those of us on the bank as well as the boats that go inside the lockwalls. This is the earliest they have been able to open the gates in 3 years !! And already a lot of people have caught more Sauger than they have in the last 3 years combined, even though the bite isnt steady yet.The real key IMO is the stability of the gates being open, with a constant flow moving the bait(shad) around more causing the fish to have to be more active to eat) ...the longer the water flow and depth stays constant ,the better the fishing is.Anytime they close the gates or cut way back on the turbines and the water goes down fast the fish seem to shut down till it stabilizes to the new flow and depth caused by the sudden reduction in water.Anyway this is how it has always seemed to me,maybe others have a better explanation (grin)
